The Bike Science / Boardman Elite / The.Æight.Bicycle.Cømpany ‘Cross Team are pleased to announce three new signings for the ‘12/’13 season. Pete Lawrence and Glen Whittington will both race the entire London League and Richard Westover will race five events in his rookie season. They’ll be joined by a further rider at each of the rounds on a “guest bike” with the hope to encourage new names to the sport at all age groups and abilities. One further rider will be confirmed before the season gets underway.
The team is being run in house at Tribeca Sport by Glen Whittington who owns and runs the workshop there. Here’s what he has to say – “I’m really happy with the riders we have. We’ve got a mix of old friends and new faces and we’re working closely with riders from the Tunbridge Wells area. The team will be centred on getting out there and racing with all age groups and abilities welcome. We’ve got big hopes for the future, but we’re starting small with three bikes and lots of enthusiasm! I’m especially excited about the guest bike because it’ll be a great tool to introduce new riders to the sport”.
Richard raced his first Ironman this year and is a regular at Tribeca Sport. He spotted the advert looking for new riders and chucked his cap into the ring. He’ll race his first five events this winter to get a feel for ‘cross and to help keep his fitness through to the beginning of next year’s Triathlon season.
Glen will ride the entire London League Season providing support for the other riders and is looking to shake the top ten up. He managed to finish 20th overall last year on just eight events. His best placing was eighth at Penshurst and will be looking to improve on that this year.
Pete races in the vets division and will likewise be racing at least eight London League races as well as the Rapha SuperCross and the 3 Peaks race. He’s been racing the last few seasons and will look to improve his results a little as well as teaching the new recruits a thing or two. Pete is part of a large group of riders who meet and ride from the Tunbridge Wells and Southborough area and it is from this group that many of the guest riders will come from.
The team will race on Boardman Bikes’s CX Pro and have three bikes in their arsenal. As one of the few selected Boardman Elite dealers in the country Tribeca Sport are in the unique position of having the best kit available. Glen said, “We looked into lots of different bike options and tested a few of our favourites – nothing came close to the Boardman in terms of rider feedback and quality so in the end it was an easy decision. We’ve made a couple of changes to the set-up, but nothing major – they are basically customer bikes”!
The “Guest bike” will be used by as many different riders as possible at all levels of ability. Some old hands answered the advert and a few shop regulars have also put their names down. There will be race reports coming from all riders which should make for interesting reading.
All of the bikes will be serviced by THE.ÆIGHT.BICYCLE.CØMPANY at Tribeca Sport with kit and bike fits from Bike Science. Bikes and team rides are still available so if you’re interested you should contact Glen via glen@tribecasport.co.uk for more details. They have several packages to suit you as well as a full range of bikes, servicing and bike fitting in their shop in Southborough, Tunbridge Wells.
